June 2015 is a big month for the I-4 Ultimate expansion project. While this event doesn’t affect Harkins Commercial Real Estate directly, its impact on commercial real estate in Orlando is going to be huge. Here are a few dates to consider and a reminder of the scope of this expansion project.

  • This week all northbound lanes on Tampa Avenue from Long Street to SR-408 will be closed from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. until the 19th for bridgework.
  • To prepare for a ramp closing, two right lanes on eastbound I-4 from SR-50/Colonial Drive to New Hampshire Street will be closed from 10 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. June 21-22.
  • Permanent closure of the ramp from eastbound I-4 to Ivanhoe Blvd. will begin on June 21 at 10 p.m. This ramp is being closed to rebuild the interchange, widen the highway and provide drainage.

There are many projects that will include lane closures, traffic re-direction, installing barrier walls and repaving throughout the month. This project is far from over. It’s projected to take up to six years after initial construction began in February 2015. This project is also expected to bring $13 billion in economic benefits to the area.

While these closures may add hiccups to your day right now, think about all the opportunities it will open up to your business and the real estate market in Orlando.
